Yesterday at night a mating of Siever’s pit vipers, Triceratolepidophis sieversorum, has taken place. This is their first mating in the new season. Now we are waiting for a clutch at the end of May – June, and for babies by August. This is a rare snake, it was discovered only in two localities on the border of Vietnam and Laos. These snakes were received in Tula for the first time in 2004 from an expedition to Vietnam. They were bred in captivity for the first time in the world in 2006 (Shiryaev et al., Russian Journal of Herpetology, Vol. 14, No. 1, 2007), and since this time offspring from them was received two more times in 2010 and in 2011. At present these pit vipers are bred in captivity only in Tula Exotarium.
