  • They inhabit Mexican lakes Xochimilco and Chalco;
  • Longevity is up to 17 years;
  • Translated from the language of the Aztecs the word “axolotl” means “a water toy”;
  • This is a neotenic larva of some species of mole salamanders, it attains sexual maturity and becomes capable to reproduction without transformation into an adult form. If axolotl is moved into a drier and colder climate it transforms into an adult mole salamander.
