- It is found only on Madagascar island. The life span is up to 35 years. They received their name because of the yellow stripes radiating to the sides from the center of each shield similar to the rays of the Sun. The carapace is of un unusual domelike shape.
- This is one of the most beautiful tortoises of the world which seriously suffers from humans who use their carapaces for hand-made things.
